Deep Eddy is a neo-noir feature marking Temple Baker's directorial debut, with Richard Linklater serving as executive producer. The film wrapped production in Austin, Texas in October 2025 and stars Baker himself as flame-out writer Eddy O'Neill, who is battling a looming deadline, a murky criminal conspiracy, and what the filmmakers describe as "a questionable understanding of the investigatory benefits of alcohol." The cast includes Paul Walter Hauser (Fantastic Four: First Steps, Black Bird) as Pug Browder, a violent and unpredictable figure shadowing Eddy's chaotic stumble through Austin's criminal underworld. Sasha Lane (Twisters, American Honey), Hassie Harrison (Dangerous Animals, Yellowstone), and Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us) round out the ensemble. After an encounter with the enigmatic Daisy Kowalsky leads to witnessing a double murder, Eddy's search for a story spirals into a surreal, deadly game of cat and mouse. Shot entirely on location, Deep Eddy captures Austin's contradictions -- from gritty dive bars (specifically the titular Deep Eddy Cabaret, a real Austin institution on Lake Austin Boulevard) and boxing gyms to glossy social clubs and lakeside mansions. The film weaves a story about self-destruction, redemption, and the blurred line between truth and invention. Linklater's involvement as EP continues his long tradition of mentoring emerging Austin filmmakers, having also supported Jake Binstock and Parker Rouse on The Wasps.
