Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about WhatsFilming.
What is FilmingToday?
WhatsFilming is a directory of active film permits and production locations across North America. We track what movies, TV shows, and other productions are actively filming in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, and more.
Who is this for?
Fans who want to spot productions on location. Background actors and extras looking for active sets. Locals who want to know about street closures and filming activity in their neighborhood. Industry professionals tracking what's in production.
How do you get your data?
We aggregate data from public film permit databases (FilmLA, NYC Open Data, Georgia Film Office), entertainment news outlets (Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter), and verified social media sightings. Every listing is cross-referenced with multiple sources.
How often is the data updated?
We aim to update permit data weekly. New productions are added as they begin filming, and we remove listings when productions wrap. If you notice something outdated, please let us know through the contact page.
Can I submit a filming tip?
Yes! If you spot a production filming in your area, click Submit Tip and share what you know. Include the production name if possible, the location, and any details like street closures or signage. We verify every tip before publishing.
What do the production types mean?
We categorize productions by format: "TV" covers series and limited series. "Movie" covers feature films. "Documentary" covers doc series and features. "Commercial" and "Music Video" cover shorter-form productions.
Is FilmingToday free?
Completely free. Browse productions, check filming locations, and explore by city without paying anything. No account required.
A production has wrapped or the info is wrong. How do I report it?
Productions come and go quickly! If something has wrapped, moved, or has incorrect details, let us know through our contact page. We update listings as fast as we can.
