About
The Boy in the Iron Box is a supernatural dark fantasy horror film based on the serialized novella by Guillermo del Toro and bestselling author Chuck Hogan, published as an Amazon Original Stories title in 2024. David Prior (who directed episodes of del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix) writes and directs, with del Toro producing alongside longtime collaborator J. Miles Dale. The story follows a team of mercenaries whose plane crash-lands on a remote snowy summit. When they discover a maze-like stone fortress, it proves no refuge from the wolves and freezing wind -- it's more like a trap. What they find inside can stop the heart, or worse. The cast features Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand (who starred in del Toro's The Strain), and Jaeden Martell, with an international ensemble including Chris Petrovski, Aksel Hennie, Arnas Fedaravicius, Eugene Prokofiev, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and Julian Kostov. Filming takes place entirely in Toronto from October 20, 2025 through January 14, 2026, with the Canadian city's winter conditions providing a fitting environment for the story's frozen, hostile setting. The film is expected to arrive on Netflix in late 2026 or 2027.
