About
holySMOKE is a science-charged, post-apocalyptic horror feature directed by Rhyan LaMarr and co-written by LaMarr and Braxten Smith. The film unfolds in the underbelly of Chicago after a viral outbreak throws the city into chaos. A mismatched group of survivors -- an ex-soldier (Yancey Arias), a brilliant epidemiologist (Will Yun Lee), an unconventional food courier (Adam W.), a by-the-book firefighter (Alexis Knapp), and an eccentric stoner scientist (Don Benjamin) -- must neutralize the threat and prevent the disease from spreading beyond the city. The ensemble cast also includes Terrence J. among the leads. LaMarr has stated that the film examines "what happens when science fails, community fractures and faith is all that remains." Lee J. Buckley serves as cinematographer, while Kat Bloom and Lycee Anaya of Vault Studios are spearheading VFX. Additional producers include Greg Carter, Jaron Marquis, Ronique Shaw, Don Benjamin, and Krish Sidhu. Filming is taking place in Winnipeg, Canada, utilizing the Manitoba Film and Music Rebate Program, with additional production in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the project is registered with the New Mexico Film Office. Distribution is spearheaded by Marvin Neil of Inaugural Entertainment under the Relativity Media banner.
