About
The Weekend on Cape Cod When Everything Changed (since retitled Same Same But Different) is a multicultural indie romcom written by Dalia Rooni and directed by Lauren Noll in her feature directorial debut. The film follows a wide-eyed Iranian immigrant who accepts a wedding proposal from her billionaire boss's son to remain in the United States, only to have their simple green card wedding on Cape Cod complicated when her two closest Iranian friends arrive with their own American boyfriends and cross-cultural baggage. The ensemble cast includes Medalion Rahimi (Alex Cross), Logan Miller (Love, Simon), Layla Mohammadi, Dalia Rooni (who also wrote the script), Richie Moriarty, Michael Baszler, Danielle Pinnock, Nicholas Coombe, Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live, Weeds), and Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy). Principal photography began April 1, 2025, with an 18-day shooting schedule. The primary filming location was 3 Goodspeed Island Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, a waterfront property with beach access, with additional scenes at the Water St. General Store and various Cape Cod sites. A beach wedding scene filmed April 9-10 required cast and crew to maintain "late-summer/early-fall country club wedding" costumes despite temperatures in the 30s-40s Fahrenheit. Local Mattapoisett residents served as extras, shuttled from the Park and Ride to the filming location. The film premiered at SXSW on March 12, 2026, where it screened under its new title Same Same But Different. The property was originally planned as a Netflix series location before the SAG-AFTRA strike delayed and ultimately transformed the project.
