About
The Rip is a 2026 action thriller written and directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, Boss Level), reuniting real-life best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on screen. Inspired by the true story of Miami-Dade County Police Captain Chris Casiano, the film follows a team of narcotics officers in the Miami-Dade Police Department who discover $20 million in hidden cartel cash during a raid on a house in Hialeah. As suspicion spreads about who might be skimming, trust among the team collapses. The ensemble cast includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler. Despite the Miami setting, principal photography took place primarily in Los Angeles from October 3 to December 11, 2024, with various LA neighborhoods carefully redressed to stand in for Miami streets. Long Beach served as a key filming hub. Drone shots captured California's sprawling landscapes for the film's large-scale action sequences -- explosions, car chases, and shootouts. Additional scenes were shot in New Jersey in November 2024, and establishing shots of Miami landmarks including Kaseya Centre, the Port of Miami, and One Thousand Museum provide geographic authenticity. The Rip premiered on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
