Abbott Elementary is Quinta Brunson's award-winning mockumentary comedy about teachers at an underfunded Philadelphia public school. Though set in Philly, the show films entirely in Los Angeles. Season 4 filmed from August 2024 through March 2025, briefly pausing in January 2025 due to the devastating Southern California wildfires before resuming on January 13. The show has been renewed through Season 5, which features a creative twist: the school temporarily relocates to an abandoned LA mall after sustaining damage, a storyline inspired by real events during the wildfires. Production designer Michael Whetstone transformed the mall into a makeshift school environment. Kathy Bates (who films Matlock nearby) pushed CBS to keep production in LA to support the local industry. Abbott Elementary has won multiple Emmy Awards and become one of network TV's most acclaimed comedies.
