RJ Decker brings Carl Hiaasen's beloved 1987 novel Double Whammy to television as an ABC crime dramedy, with Scott Speedman starring as the titular disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who reinvents himself as a private investigator taking on South Florida's strangest cases. The series captures Hiaasen's signature blend of sharp storytelling and absurdist humor, developed by Rob Doherty (Elementary) with Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) directing and Hiaasen himself executive producing. Despite being set in the sun-soaked world of South Florida, the series films in Wilmington, North Carolina, taking advantage of the state's generous film incentive program with an award of up to $11.6 million from the North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grant. The pilot filmed at Carolina Beach near the Seawitch Cafe and Tiki Bar, with various locations standing in for trailer parks, hospitals, and restaurants. Ongoing production utilizes Wilmington's diverse locations, including The Suites on Market hotel where over 130 cast and crew members -- 35 cast, 85 crew, and 10 extras -- filmed scenes in February 2026. Speedman is joined by Weruche Opia, Kevin Rankin as Aloysius "Wish" Aiken, Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix, and Bevin Bru as Melody "Mel" Romero. The series, produced by 20th Television for ABC, premiered Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET.
