About
Widow's Bay is a horror comedy series for Apple TV+ created by Katie Dippold, who previously wrote The Heat (2013) starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, and the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. Dippold serves as showrunner and executive producer on the ten-episode series, which has been described as a blend of Jaws, Stephen King, and Atlanta in its mix of genuine horror and character-driven comedy. Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason) stars as Mayor Tom Loftis, a pragmatic single father who refuses to believe the warnings of his town's superstitious citizens, who claim their New England island is cursed. The ensemble cast includes Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey. Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Station Eleven) directs five of the ten episodes, with horror filmmaker Ti West (X, Pearl), Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung directing the remaining episodes. The production filmed extensively across Massachusetts coastal locations during the summer of 2025, operating under the working title Flashlight. Key filming sites included Gloucester, where crews set up at Stage Fort Park and along the harbor, as well as Bearskin Neck in Rockport, Essex, and Worcester. The New England coastal towns provided the authentic small-island atmosphere the show demands, with their weathered harbors, narrow streets, and dramatic ocean views. Widow's Bay is set to make its global debut on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, with the first three episodes premiering that day followed by weekly releases every Wednesday through June 17, 2026.
