About
The Yogurt Shop Murders is a four-part HBO documentary series directed and produced by Margaret Brown, examining one of Austin's most notorious unsolved crimes. On December 6, 1991, four teenage girls -- Amy Ayers, Jennifer Harbison, Sarah Harbison, and Eliza Thomas -- were brutally murdered at an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! shop on West Anderson Lane, a crime that shattered the Austin community and remains unsolved to this day. Executive produced by Emma Stone and Dave McCary under their Fruit Tree banner, with A24 producing, the series had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 10, 2025, in the same city where the murders occurred. It debuted on HBO on August 3, 2025, with new episodes airing on subsequent Sundays. The documentary features archival footage and interviews with the investigative teams, the victims' parents and siblings, and the two men who served time for the crime before their convictions were overturned. The series delves into the botched investigation, the controversial confessions, and the lasting trauma inflicted on the Austin community. A24 paid for therapy for the production team due to the graphic nature of the case material. The docuseries is part of a broader wave of Texas-focused true crime content that reexamines cases through a modern lens.
