The Drama

The Drama is an upcoming romantic comedy drama written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the Norwegian filmmaker behind Dream Scenario (2023) starring Nicolas Cage. Produced by A24 and Ari Aster, the film stars Zendaya as Emma Harwood, a bookstore clerk, and Robert Pattinson as Charlie Thompson, a British museum director from London. The ensemble cast also includes Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, and Zoe Winters. The story follows a happily engaged couple whose wedding week is thrown off the rails by an unexpected turn. When one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other in the days before the ceremony, their relationship is put to its ultimate test. The film blends romantic comedy conventions with the kind of dark, surreal edge that has become Borgli's signature style. Principal photography took place from late October through mid-December 2024, primarily in Boston, Massachusetts. Pattinson and Zendaya were spotted filming across the city throughout the fall, with the Boston setting serving as the backdrop for the couple's pre-wedding chaos. The production spent approximately $2.9 million shooting in Louisiana as well, and additional filming occurred in the United Kingdom, where production had commenced on October 21, 2024. A24's marketing campaign made headlines in December 2025 when the studio placed a mock engagement announcement for the fictional characters in the Boston Globe, running it alongside the newspaper's Love Letters romance advice column. The stunt revealed plot details and character information months before the first trailer, generating significant buzz. The first teaser trailer dropped in December 2025, followed by a full trailer in February 2026. The Drama is scheduled for theatrical release on April 3, 2026. The pairing of Zendaya and Pattinson, two of the biggest stars of their generation, alongside Borgli's distinctive filmmaking voice, has made this one of the most anticipated A24 releases of the year.
