Boston Blue is a police procedural spinoff of the long-running Blue Bloods, starring Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as NYPD detective Danny Reagan who transfers to the Boston Police Department after a case involving his younger son Sean. The series premiered on CBS on October 17, 2025, and was ordered straight-to-series with 20 episodes for its first season. Wahlberg is joined by Sonequa Martin-Green as Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a noted Boston police family and Danny's new partner. The cast also includes Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Gloria Reuben, and Mika Amons. Wahlberg also serves as executive producer on the series. While set in Boston, primary production takes place in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area for financial reasons. The production schedule ran from July 10, 2025, through March 16, 2026. However, select exterior scenes were filmed on location in Boston during August 2025, with Donnie Wahlberg spotted filming at Boston Common and Fenway Park. Other authentic Boston landmarks appearing in the show include Downtown Boston, Park Street T Station, and Granary Burying Ground, with the mix of Toronto interiors and real Boston exteriors giving the series a balance between realism and practicality. In December 2025, CBS renewed the series for a second season, and it has sold to over 100 international markets.
